During the time of the year when many families are close to friends and relatives, the patients and family members at Fuda are thinking of home. To help ease the feeling, Fuda held the annual Chinese New Year celebration for all of its patients. Patients were welcomed with good luck charms that can be hung in the room to ward off bad spirits, and to invite more lucky and health for the upcoming new year.Dr. Rita Lu opened the event by retelling the ancient story of how Chinese New Year began, as well as why this year is known on the zodiac as the year of the tiger (an ancient fable that told of a race between all the animals on earth). With a karaoke machine, patients and family members volunteered to sing, the hospital provided a large buffet that included sandwiches, roasted meats, vegetables, fruits, drinks, and traditional new year items such as peanuts and oranges.
