At 18:30, September 1st 2010, the "FUDA Cup" English Speech Contest held by Fuda Hospital was started punctually in the Multi-Purpose Hall. International juries for this occasion came from China, India, Philippine, Malaysia and Indonesia. Prof. Xu Kecheng, President of Fuda Hospital, Vice- General Manager Mr. Liu Jianguo and other leaders also attended the contest.
For the contest, all the contestants were allowed to give a 3-5 minute-speech on the topic of appreciation to Fuda. When contestant no 5 Ms. Zhang Ping spoke about “This Is My Home, This Is My Team,” everybody gave her warm applause because her speech represent everybody's heart. Some of the contestants talked about their feelings about Fuda. Others shared the moving stories they experienced at Fuda Hospital, which deeply touched every audience. The whole audience gave their warm applause for the wonderful speeches.
The contestants' fluency and mastery in using English shocked everybody. How can the staffs of Fuda Hospital speak English in such native pronunciation and intonation! And besides, their profound thinking and innovation also come as a big surprise for everybody!
After all contestants have finished with their speeches, Prof. Xu said: I feel very touched that there are so many people in Fuda Hospital have interest in learning English. Undoubtly, the enhance of English speaking ability could greatly affect the development of our hospital, in where more than 60% of patient are international patients .To improve our spoken English, public English speech is an essential step. Excellent foundation of English knowledge and skills accumulated step by step from daily study will strengthen our English expression ability.
After 3-hour's of tense contest, Ms. He Lihua, with the title "To Be The One"--from a special perspective, gave vivid examples to show her appreciation to Fuda. In a word, her performance was almost perfect, and made her won the first prize; Mr. Liu Junyi, Ms. Wang Fang with powerful and strengthful speeches came in second; Ms. Kong Xiaofeng, Mr. Zheng Xin and Ms. Huang Liwen won the third prize. At 21:30, the event was closed with big success. This contest is the start of Fuda Cup, an event with great historical meaning for Fuda. Quoted from one contestant's words: “I believe my dream will come true in Fuda, because we share love in Fuda Hospital, because we share love in all over the world.”
